History and Overview
The Campbell Memorial Alumni Association was established in 2007 to create
scholarship grants to benefit future graduates of Campbell Memorial High School.
By establishing this Association, Campbell alumni can create annual scholarships
and endowed perpetual scholarships that benefit the educational goals of
Campbell Memorial graduates well into the future.
The Alumni Association’s primary goals are:
• To raise funds to establish scholarship grants for future graduates of
Campbell Memorial High School
• To connect alumni to the high school, to the community, and to each other
• To assist in the betterment of the community and the Campbell school system.
The citizens of Campbell and alumni of Campbell Memorial High School have profound love for their
community and for their schools. So, like many brilliant ideas that have changed lives, the
formation of the Campbell Memorial Alumni Association will also markedly affect the lives of
Campbell citizens and alumni.
Forming the Campbell Memorial
Alumni Association was an idea that was conceived by many over numerous years, but only came
to realization when John Kovach, Class of 1958, took the lead and called on Campbell alumni
to help launch this organization and to make it a permanent part of the community.
On January 10, 2007, the first meeting of the Alumni Association was held in the Campbell
Memorial High School library. Many graduating classes were represented by dedicated Campbellites
who committed their support in this endeavor. All shared the same goals for this newly-formed
organization: to renew old friendships, to reminisce about their days in the Campbell school
system, and more importantly, to work together to raise funds for the distribution of scholarships
to upcoming Campbell Memorial High School graduates.
Within the first month of existence, the Alumni Association bylaws were drafted and adopted,
and the first slate of officers was elected. Many prominent alumni pledged generous donations
to become members of the Founding Board of Trustees.
With full support of the Campbell Board of Education, the Campbell Memorial High School
administration and faculty, a permanent office was established at the high school and
staffed by three alumni members.
To boost involvement by current students of Campbell Memorial High School, an Alumni
Association logo contest was launched, and Robert Merva, a Class of 2007 senior, was named Alumni
Association Technology Director.
On May 6, 2007, the Campbell Memorial Alumni Association will host its first banquet at St.
Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Campbell. The honorary guest speaker is Dr. David
Yeropoli, Class of 1966.
Although in its early stages, the Alumni Association has made great strides since its
inception—a testament to the fact that the citizens of Campbell and alumni of
Campbell Memorial High School were ready and willing to entrust their love and pride
for Campbell to an organization that captures the essence of what it means to be a Campbellite.
